Historic 1880 Josephine Hotel Building in Downtown Union Springs, Alabama.  Currently operating as the Josephine Event Center (Art Coffee Cafe).  Just south of the famous Bird Dog Field Capital of the World birddog monument.  Listed as a contributing structure in the Bullock County Courthouse Historic District with 45 other buildings in the downtown area.  Main floor in use since 1880.  Upper 2 floors, where hotel was housed, is currently clean but not renovated.  Area still looks like 1880 layout.  New commerical rubber roof in late 2010.  Main floor is around 4500 sq feet and has had electrical/plumbing and other upgrades.  Fully functional as a eat in Ice Cream Sandwich Shoppe with modern kitchen and current Alabama Health Department approval.  There are bathrooms in each of the 3 sections of the building with a local museum and art shoppe off of cafe section.  A small stage was added and used for musical and educational events.  The three floors have approximately 17,000 sq ft for use/development.  

The hotel building has a vast history and most of it is documented in Museum area.  Interesting enough the builder Robert Fleming built the hotel with the help of his wife (Josephine -hotel name) from a wheelchair as a parapledgic.  Six years later the same builders constructed the Bluff Inn in Eufaula, Alabama with some of the same unusual features.  The building still has skylights that give natural lighting to the second and third floors.  Orginally the hotel had its own water tower and elevator - long before its time. There are still radiators in the hotel area if someone wanted green tax credits.   NOTE: The Bluff Inn in Eufaula has been recently purchased and will reopen as a Marriot in 2027.  

Union Springs is centrally located between Montgomery and Eufaula (E/W) and Troy and Auburn/Opelika (N/S).  It is the county seat for Bullock County and is known for its Hunting throughout the Country and beyond.  Hunters travel here to hunt year round during appropriate seasons for quail, deer, fox, turkey and boar.
